Martyr's Stake

The site where two local woman were drowned because of their beliefs

The Marty's Stake

The granite stake is said to mark the place where Margaret McLachlan (63) and Margaret Wilson (18), two local Covenanter women, were tied and drowned on 11 May 1685.

The stake is sited where the original River Bladnoch flowed to Wigtown Harbour, now the Marytr's Stake car park.
